the annoying catch-up

I have really let my blog go. I just kept telling myself "tomorrow, I'll feel like it tomorrow". Well, the time has come, my friends, to suck it up and update the people in my life. NOVEMBER (yeah, its been that long) was a wonderful month. We went on a Bingham family road trip to California. I super loathe car rides but it was worth it. Trennon loves being with his cousins. Even though he is smaller and can't run as fast or jump as high, he sure does try. Disneyland was a magical place, per usual. We hit as many rides and shows as possible. And used Layton's wheelchair pass to its limit. We have a pretty good system set up and I don't think anyone walked away disappointed. Jared's favorite ride was The Tower of Terror, Tren's was It's a Small World, and mine was good old Splash Mountain. I always feel like a kid there and it reminds me that life is not all about money and chores and work.
We also hit up the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and Sea World. We spent Thanksgiving day at Sea World and then had dinner in the restaurant next to the hotel. It was a lot of fun! Obviously not full of tradition and Grandma's cream of cauliflower, but we had a good time being together.
DECEMBER we spent traveling as well. We went to Idaho for Ali's 18th birthday. Our little baby is all grown up! And then we headed out to Colorado for an Ash Christmas. Can I just say that I love Durango? It is a beautiful place. And of course the people there aren't too bad. Again, Tren had a blast playing with Averi and Sienna. He followed them everywhere and taught himself how to do everything they were doing. Like climb a ladder to get into the playroom (That little daredevil scares me on a daily basis). And us adults had fun playing games and eating tons of food.
We were also able to visit Jared's grandpa who had recently had some health scares. It was great to see him again. He always makes me feel so good about myself. He tells me I'm beautiful and asks about the farm and just plain won't stop complimenting me.
For New Years we drove back to SLC and stayed near Temple Square. It was slightly disappointing compared to the last time we were there, but we definitely still had fun.

JANUARY didn't bring anything too new or exciting. Jared and I were split up at church. We no longer teach Sunday school together. I am with the 4-year-olds in primary and Jared has a new partner with the 14-year-olds. We are both having a little trouble adjusting but I guess we will make it. It is so stinking cold outside that we only venture out when we need to or the snow is piling up again. Tren does not like playing in the snow. But we forced him to try it.
My parents, Ali, Layton, and Kristina came for a quick visit. That was fun until everybody got sick (sorry guys, my fault). Trennon is now running around the house, climbing everything, and figuring out how things work. I have to know where he is at all times because the second I lose track he colors on the wall, falls off a chair, or turns on the shower, etc. I love that little trouble maker and he gives me a good workout. I don't know what I would do without him.

These pictures are from the October Ash family photo shoot.

harvest

It's the most wonderful time of the year! No, not Christmas. Although that is at the top of my "wonderful" list as well. I think I learned my love for fall from my father. I have so many memories of truck driving and tractor riding. And now I get to pass that on to Trennon (although I'm pretty sure Jared was the one who enjoyed it most this year). We drove up to Jerome just to check it all out. Tren loved the tractor. He could have stayed in there all day if Layton would have given up his seat. He kept trying to push all the buttons and take over the operation. This year Jared took the reins and learned how to drive my mom's truck. He did quite well for his first time. Look out, we might be moving to the farm.

Everybody has to take a spin in Uncle Layton's wheelchair from time to time.
It was getting close to dinner time and it is hard to wait for Grandpa to come home from the tractor. All the boys gathered around like little birds to steal Layton's mac n cheese. It was pretty funny to watch them all "chirp" for their fair share. Poor Tren got stuck in between Layton's legs and got pushed around a few times but that didn't stop him from getting some food.

the big ONE

My little baby is no longer a baby; he is a toddler. And while it is sad, we are having so much fun together. I love how he plays and cruises around the house. He is mischievous and knows how to get into everything. I am very glad that he is still my little cuddle bug and always takes time to come sit on my lap or curl up next to me. I'll be sad when he no longer does that. But anyways, his birthday was wonderful. We celebrated early with the Bingham clan after Calvin's blessing. He opened his presents from Grandma and Grandpa (with Keegan and Oliver's help) and then dove into an ice cream cake. Although it was probably not the best idea to make him eat ice cream with his hands, he still enjoyed it. Thanks to all those who helped make his day special.

I like the old school feel to these photos. It makes Keegan look a lot like Cody.

Then we got a special treat and the day after his birthday Grandma Ash came for a visit. Trennon was so lucky to see her! We had a lot of fun shopping and eating and making a Halloween costume. We were sad that the festivities had to end so soon.

brigham city temple

A few weeks ago we happened to be driving through Brigham City and since Jared was avoiding doing his homework he suggested we just go look at the temple. We hadn't gotten around to getting tickets so we were going to walk around the outside. Well, Jared decided to be a little silly and as we were walking past an usher/parking attendant he said, (really really loudly) "I wish we could go inside, but we don't have tickets. I'm so curious about this building." His fake inquisitiveness paid off. The attendant told us where to go and we were inside the temple within 5 minutes.
Inside was gorgeous! I know that all temples are well thought out and beautiful but this one was so colorful. I loved seeing all the paintings, murals and furniture. I was seriously blown away by how simple concepts, put together in the right way, can create a sacred, peaceful feeling. After having a rough few weeks it was nice to sit back and recognize all the beauty that Heavenly Father has given us.  And I'm so glad that even though he won't remember it, Tren has already been inside a temple.

august? where did you go?

August seemed to fly by. We did not get to relax at all. And I guess that's okay. We had a great time. The beginning of August was full of wedding festivities. Yes, little Stephi-wephi is now a married woman. We are so happy for her and Josh. They are a really great couple and we love having them around. (especially for babysitting!) They were married August 16th in the Logan temple. It was a beautiful, warm day. The ceremony was great and they were smiling from ear to ear. Although I felt more stressed for her wedding than I did my own, once it was all said and done it turned out really well and everyone had a good time. Tren loved all the attention he got in his cute little suspenders.

My favorite part is his bare feet. I'm biased, I know. But could he be any cuter?
The weekend after wedding festivities Randy and Tammie came for a visit. We love it when they come and they don't have to help us with home improvement projects but we sure do appreciate it. Here is a picture of the problem:
And here is the solution:

It looks so great! I feel like such a grown-up with a mounted tv.

After a short weekend visit from the Ashes(which we wish could have lasted longer), Tren and I had a total of 4 hours to get ready for our next adventure. My parents decided to take a last minute vacation on a Disney cruise to Alaska. (I'm only a little jealous) They took Grandma and Grandpa Gilbert and headed off to the unknown. Well someone had to take care of Ali and Layton, so we graciously stepped in. It really was fun to spend some quality time with my youngest siblings. I feel like I don't get to do that often enough. We had a great time. Ali and I went shopping a few times and made sure to spend all the money that was left for "emergencies".
Tren loved playing with his Uncle Layton. Everything Layton did he had to try too. They ate breakfast together, wrestled, and played Legos every single day. They were pretty cute together. Even if Layton waking up early and Tren staying up late made me extremely sleep deprived.
* No one was hurt in the taking of this picture

I also got to spend time with Cody's family. At the beginning of the week I said that it would be nice to get to meet baby #3. So if Liz could have him on Saturday, that would be great. Well, I didn't know what I was truly wishing for. I forgot that if both Cody and Liz are at the hospital, and there are no other adults around, I get two more kids. Let me just say that I'm glad Jared and Ali were there to help but this little Ash family will be taking its sweet, sweet time before having any more children. I was definitely overwhelmed. But I was so grateful for the opportunity to be there for Cody and Liz. I don't get to help them out very often so I'm happy I could. And the boys really weren't too bad. There were just a lot of them. (And three in diapers, gross!)  But I am pleased to announce that Calvin May Bingham was born on September 1. He was NOT a 10 pound baby, so yay for Liz this time. And he has dark hair. So now they have the whole rainbow!

lake powell 2012

Another week at Lake Powell has come and gone; and this year was Tren's first time at the lake. It was so fun watching him play with all his cousins. He doesn't get to see them as much as he sees Keegan and Oliver. So at first he was a little apprehensive but then he jumped right in and wanted to do everything the older kids were doing. Averi was my favorite to watch with him. She played peek-a-boo so many times, swam with him, and made sure he was always safe.

This year's theme was the olympics and it was really fun. There was a balloon launching contest, kayak pull, synchronized swimming, and relay race. Our team was green and purple, so we kinda looked like the hulk team. We walked away with 2 golds and 2 silvers.
And the rest of the time was spent like normal. We surfed and swam and read and ate, a lot. It was a great vacation. And now Trennon misses being with everyone. Being home alone with mom just isn't as much fun.
Working with Grandpa and Gerald
Jared helped Averi surf
Jared and Kim brought the same shirt so of course it had to be documented.
Oh siblings! They were recreating a silly picture from their childhood.

bragging about a friend

One of my very best friends is an amazing artist. She does it all: painting, writing, photography and anything else you can think of. While she was visiting us she decided to use her skills on our little family. Beth took such adorable pictures of Trennon. And they were all taken at the park right next to our house. So it showcases the views we can see from our front porch.
